Impermanence
Anitya in Sanskrit – Anicca in Pali

One of the kleshas, the 5 oot causes of suffering – AVIDYA – ignorance
For example, ignorance of the connection to each other and all of Nature, ignorance of the impact of our thoughts, words, actions, ignorance surrounding what is permanent (nothing) or impermanent (everything)
I broke impermanence into 3 main categories:
MACRO level - your life itself
MESO level - relationships, jobs, locations, long-term choices
MICRO level - short term experiences, choices, moods, feelings
We don’t typically contemplate our deaths (Tibetan Book of the Dead), by ignoring our personal impermanence, we tend to squander energy, thoughts, actions, time
JOURNAL PROMPTS:
How does contemplating your impending death make you feel?
What are some ways you might incorporate that awareness in your day-to-day?
What’s a life choice you’ve made or didn’t make that you would do differently had you been more cognizant of your impermanence?
What are some of the ways you DON'T factor in or embrace impermanence in relationships and experiences? ie: phone, escapism, focusing on what’s going wrong vs what's going right
What are some ways you can remember impermanence on the micro (all day long) level? To remember "this shall pass" so either let go of some angst or double down your savoring?
References:
I mentioned the Tibetan Book of the Dead, the app We Croak and the book Tuesday's with Morrie. You can include your suggestions for embracing impermanence in the comments on this video or in our What's App chat!
