Part 1 of our Satsang on Anger (Krodha) and how to work with it skillfully from a Yoga perspective. I recorded this since I'm in a very different time zone and a live session would be tough but we will have our Soul Circle on this topic in conjunction with our Live Meditation on 3/23 to see how the practices worked for you this month!
Anger is something we all experience from time to time and it, in itself, isn't "bad". But what we do with anger makes all the difference. In this talk, I give 5 ways from Patanjali's Yoga Sutras to work skillfully with anger or rage. It isn't easy. But a variety of tools to work with it may be helpful in your process.
When anger arises, different approaches may be helpful depending on the situation:
1. Pause & Witness (Drashta (Witness/Seer) Perspective) – Create space between you and the emotion.
2. Reframe (Pratipaksha Bhavana) – Shift anger into curiosity, understanding, or compassion.
3. Let Go (Ishvarapranidhana) – Release control and trust the larger flow.
4. Take Wise Action (Karma Yoga) – Use anger as fuel for meaningful action.
5. Question the Ego (Atma Vichara) – Ask, “Who is the ‘I’ that is offended?”
Questions to ponder:
1) Which of these practices resonates with you the most? Why?
2) What are some of your real life scenarios where one might be more effective than another?
3) What will you do to remember these practices in the heat of the moment?
